Round bar and rod
For turned parts, shafts, pins and fasteners. Rod usually refers to smaller diameters.
Round, square, hexagonal and flat aluminium bar for machining, fasteners and structural parts. Metline Industries supplies extruded and cold-finished bar from Mumbai, from free-cutting grades for high-speed CNC work to high-strength aerospace alloys.

Most aluminium bar starts life as an extrusion. Extruded bar is cost-effective, available in a wide range of sizes and suitable for most machining and fabrication. Cold-finished bar is drawn through a die after extrusion, which tightens the diameter tolerance, improves straightness and leaves a cleaner surface, so it is preferred for automatic lathes and precision turned parts.
Choosing bar is about balancing machinability, strength and corrosion resistance against cost. A free-machining grade can double the output of a CNC lathe, while a high-strength 7075 bar lets you make a lighter part that still carries the load.
| Alloy | Family | What it is good at | Typical uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2011 | Al–Cu | Free-machining: small chips, fast cutting, excellent finish | Screw machine parts, fittings, fasteners |
| 2014 / 2017 | Al–Cu | High strength with good machinability | Forgings, aircraft fittings, heavy-duty parts |
| 2024 | Al–Cu | High strength and excellent fatigue resistance | Aerospace fittings, bolts, high-stress shafts |
| 6061 | Al–Mg–Si | Versatile, weldable, corrosion resistant, machines well | General machining, fixtures, valves, frames |
| 6082 | Al–Mg–Si | Higher-strength structural alternative to 6061 | Structural parts, hydraulic components, machine parts |
| 6063 | Al–Mg–Si | Good finish and anodising response | Architectural and decorative bar |
| 7075 | Al–Zn | Among the strongest aluminium alloys | Aerospace, moulds, gears, high-load parts |

For milled blocks, keys and components with flat faces.
For nuts, fittings and parts that need spanner flats without extra machining.
For brackets, busbars, frames and base plates.
2011 is the classic free-machining grade. It produces small, broken chips and a bright finish at high cutting speeds.
Both are heat-treatable Al-Mg-Si alloys. 6082 is slightly stronger and is common in European specifications; 6061 is more widely used in American standards. Both weld and machine well.
7075-T6 and 7075-T651 offer the highest strength among common bar grades, followed by 2024 and 2014.
Extruded bar that has been drawn through a die to tighten tolerances, straighten it and improve the surface finish.
