Technical data verification and publication policy

Technical library

We publish only what the evidence supports, and every value stays linked to its material condition.

Where property data comes from

Each record states its source, the date it was checked, the units, alloy, temper, product form and, where known, the test condition. Data drawn from one source only is marked that way. Where we compare sources, differences in condition and units are resolved first.

Reference values versus acceptance values

Typical values, specified minimums and chemical limits each mean something different. None of them certifies material you order through this site; the mill test certificate does that.

Conflicting and missing data

Where sources disagree, the value is held back for review. A value we cannot confirm is marked unavailable, never estimated. Alloy records still in draft are not published.

Images and illustrations

Diagrams are drawn for this library. Any generated image is marked as an illustration. Technical pictures either carry a recorded Commons licence or are clearly labelled original illustrations. Older imported photographs are not reused as technical evidence.

What the library covers today

30 alloy records, 40 product guides, 21 articles, 6 application guides and 6 standard scopes. The library is expanding and does not claim to be a complete industry database.
