Why stress-relieved stock matters
When you machine a deep pocket out of a block, you release the internal stresses left from manufacturing. In ordinary material that makes the part twist or bow. Stress-relieved tempers such as T651 and T7351 have been stretched or compressed after heat treatment to remove most of that stress, so the part stays flat and in tolerance.
For moulds and precision tooling, specialist cast tooling plates go further still, offering exceptional dimensional stability and very flat, pre-machined surfaces.

Which aluminium is best for moulds?
7075-T651 is a popular choice for blow and injection moulds thanks to its strength and machinability. For large, flat tooling, cast tooling plate offers better stability.
