Aluminium Forgings

Forged aluminium for parts that must be strong, tough and fatigue resistant. Metline Industries supplies open-die and closed-die forgings, rings and forged blocks from Mumbai.

Overview

Why forge aluminium

Forging shapes metal by pressing or hammering it while hot. Instead of cutting through the grain like machining, it bends the grain to follow the shape of the part. The result is a component with higher strength, better fatigue life and fewer internal defects than one machined from plate or cast in a mould.

That is why forgings are used for wheels, suspension arms, aircraft fittings, pistons and pressure-containing parts, where failure is not an option.

Forging types

Choosing the forging route

Open-die forgings

Shaped between flat or simple dies. Ideal for large blocks, discs, shafts and low volumes.

Closed-die forgings

Formed in shaped dies close to the finished part. Best for high volumes and complex geometry.

Seamless rolled rings

Pierced and rolled rings for flanges, bearing races and aerospace casings.

FAQ

Forging questions

Are forgings stronger than machined plate?

For the same alloy and temper, forgings generally offer better fatigue strength and toughness because the grain follows the shape of the part.

What do I need to request a forging quote?

A drawing, alloy and temper, quantity, and any testing or certification requirements such as ultrasonic inspection.
