Estimate bare-metal mass from nominal geometry. Results are theoretical, not measured shipment weights.
Formula
V = π/4 × (OD² − ID²) × coil width. For a prismatic section, V = A × length. Mass = V × density.
Worked example
outer diameter: 100 mm; inner diameter: 50 mm; width: 100 mm. At 2700 kg/m³ and one piece, the calculated mass is 1.590431 kg.
Assumptions and limits
Assumes a tightly wound annular volume of bare metal. Excludes core, coatings, interlayer gaps and packing.
Density defaults to a rounded 6061 reference. Change it for the actual material. Read the mass-estimation guide.
