What makes a good circle
A circle is judged by how it behaves in the press. It needs a fine, even grain so the drawn wall does not show orange peel, consistent mechanical properties around the whole blank so the part does not form unevenly ("earing"), and a clean surface so the finished product looks good after polishing or coating.
Hot-rolled circles generally offer better deep-drawing performance, while cold-rolled circles give a brighter surface and tighter thickness control.
Circle alloys
| Alloy | Character | Typical uses |
|---|---|---|
| 1050 / 1060 / 1070 | Very soft, highly formable, bright finish | Lighting reflectors, utensils, signage |
| 1100 | Formable with slightly higher strength | Cookware, pressure cookers, containers |
| 3003 | Stronger, more rigid finished part | Non-stick cookware, pans, heavier utensils |

Circle questions
Which aluminium circle is best for cookware?
1100 and 3003 in O or H12 temper are the usual choices. 3003 gives a stiffer pan; 1100 draws more easily.
How do I specify circles?
Give the alloy, temper, thickness, diameter, quantity and whether you need hot- or cold-rolled material.
