Aluminium rectangular tube weight calculator

Technical library

Estimate bare-metal mass from nominal geometry. Results are theoretical, not measured shipment weights.

Formula

A = width × height − (width − 2t) × (height − 2t). For a prismatic section, V = A × length. Mass = V × density.

Worked example

width: 100 mm; height: 100 mm; thickness: 10 mm; length: 100 mm. At 2700 kg/m³ and one piece, the calculated mass is 0.972000 kg.

Assumptions and limits

Assumes sharp corners and uniform thickness. For real radiused extrusions, use supplier section area in the custom-section calculator.

Density defaults to a rounded 6061 reference. Change it for the actual material. Read the mass-estimation guide.
