O / H111
Annealed (H111 lightly levelled). Car body pressings, tanker shells, deep-drawn parts.
5754 (AlMg3) is Europe's most widely used Al-Mg sheet alloy: strong, very formable, weldable and highly resistant to seawater and industrial atmospheres. It is used for car body structures, tankers, boats, flooring and tread plate. Metline supplies 5754 sheet, plate and tread plate in O/H111, H22, H24, H32 and H34 to EN 485, worldwide.

5754 contains 2.6 – 3.6 % magnesium, with small, combined manganese and chromium additions (0.10 – 0.60 % in total). It is non-heat-treatable and gains strength from solid solution and cold work.
In Europe it fills the role that 5052 plays in North America: the general-purpose formable, weldable, corrosion-resistant sheet. It is slightly stronger than 5052 in the annealed condition and has become the main alloy for aluminium car body structures, where O-temper 5754 is pressed into inner panels, floor and crash structures and joined by spot welding, riveting and adhesive bonding.
With magnesium mostly below the sensitisation threshold, 5754 is regarded as suitable for elevated-temperature service in most designs, unlike 5083. It is also the common base alloy for tread and chequer plate in Europe, combining slip resistance with corrosion resistance on vehicle floors, steps and walkways.

Limits per EN 573-3 for EN AW-5754 (AlMg3), also registered with the Aluminum Association.
EN 485-2 specified values for sheet; elongation minimums depend on thickness. Note that some published data sheets list lower figures for 5754-H111 (160 – 200 MPa) that actually belong to 5251-O; the values below are the correct EN 485-2 ranges.
| Temper | Tensile strength Rm | 0.2 % proof Rp0.2 (min.) | Elongation A50 (min., by thickness) |

Annealed (H111 lightly levelled). Car body pressings, tanker shells, deep-drawn parts.
Quarter-hard. General fabrication, boat building, vehicle panels and enclosures.
Half-hard. Flat panels, covers and parts needing more stiffness.
Patterned plate tempers used for chequer and tread plate (EN 1386).

Plain sheet weighs about 2.67 kg per m² per millimetre. Tread plate weighs more than the base gauge because of the raised pattern, so ask for the pattern-specific weight.

Excellent in O/H111. O-temper sheet can show stretcher-strain marks on visible surfaces; acceptable on hidden inner parts.
MIG and TIG with ER5356 or ER5183; for hot service ER5554. Resistance spot welding and bonding are standard in car bodies.
Excellent in seawater and industrial air. Use insulating washers with steel and stainless fasteners.
Fair; sharp tools and lubricant needed.
Good for protective films; colour has a slight yellow tint.
Generally suitable for elevated-temperature service; confirm magnesium content for critical hot applications.

5754 and 5052 are often interchangeable after review. Step up to 5083 when you need marine-tempered hull plating or higher strength.
Yes. It has excellent seawater resistance and is widely used for boats and marine fittings. For large welded hulls built to class, 5083 in H116 or H321 is the usual choice.
5754 has more magnesium (2.6 – 3.6 % against 2.2 – 2.8 %) and some manganese, so it is slightly stronger. 5052 is the North American standard and 5754 the European one.
Under EN 485-2, tensile strength 190 – 240 MPa, minimum proof strength 80 MPa and elongation 12 – 18 % depending on thickness.
Yes. 5754-O is a leading alloy for aluminium car body structures, inner panels and crash members.
Yes; it is the standard European tread plate alloy, combining slip resistance and corrosion resistance.
