Forming
O temper draws and spins easily; anneal between operations for deep parts.
1145 is 99.45 % pure aluminium, specified in aerospace mainly as annealed foil and light-gauge sheet to SAE AMS 4011. The thin sheet is used for reflective heat shields, shims, gaskets, screening and formed covers that need high purity, conductivity and formability. Metline supplies 1145 sheet in O, H14 and H24, and advises on 1050A or 1100 where thicker plate is needed.

1145 is best known as a foil alloy. Its aerospace specification, AMS 4011, covers foil and light-gauge sheet in the annealed condition, so most 1145 sheet bought for aircraft work is thin: typically from a few tenths of a millimetre to a little over a millimetre.
In that range, 1145-O is used for parts where high purity pays off: reflective radiation and heat shields, laminated shims, sealing gaskets, conductive screening and EMC shields, liners and small spun or drawn covers. It forms very easily, anodises and bright-dips to a highly reflective finish, and conducts heat and electricity better than 1100.
For heavier sheet and plate there is little practical reason to pay for 1145 purity. 1050A or 1100 plate gives almost identical forming and corrosion behaviour, is far more widely produced, and is listed in the common sheet and plate specifications. We will quote 1145 at heavier gauges if your drawing requires it, but we will also tell you when an equivalent grade would save time and cost.
| Element | Limit (wt %) |

"1145A" appears on some data sheets but is not a separately registered grade. Certificates should state 1145 with the limits shown.
| Temper | Tensile strength (guide) | Elongation | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| O (AMS 4011) | about 60 – 100 MPa | High; increases with gauge | Spinning, drawing, shims, gaskets |
| H14 / H24 | about 100 – 140 MPa | Moderate (H24 more than H14) | Flat covers and shields |
| H19 | about 150 MPa and above | Low | Very thin flat stock |
Exact tensile and elongation limits are set by thickness band in the governing specification and reported on the certificate.

O temper draws and spins easily; anneal between operations for deep parts.
Welds and brazes readily; often bonded or riveted in laminated shim packs.
Bright dipping and anodising give high reflectivity for heat shields.
It can be produced, but it is rarely worth it. 1145 is specified mainly as foil and light-gauge sheet. For plate, 1050A or 1100 gives nearly the same properties and is easier to source.
1145 is 99.45 % Al with very low impurities and no copper addition; 1100 is 99.00 % Al with 0.05 – 0.20 % copper. 1145 is slightly softer and more conductive.
SAE AMS 4011, which covers foil and light-gauge sheet in the annealed condition.
It is not a separately registered alloy. Order and certify as 1145.
Its high purity gives a bright, highly reflective surface after bright dipping or anodising, and it forms easily into shield shapes.
