TIG and MIG with 5xxx filler wire (for example ER5356). Weld zones soften towards O-temper strength.
5A02, formerly designated LF2, is a Chinese-standard aluminium-magnesium alloy with about 2.4 % magnesium, closely comparable to 5052. It offers good weldability, high corrosion resistance and good formability, and is specified on drawings that follow GB standards. Metline supplies 5A02 plate and sheet in O, H14, H24 and H112 to GB/T 3880, worldwide.

5A02 is a non-heat-treatable "rust-proof" aluminium alloy (the old name LF2 means rust-proof aluminium number 2). With 2.0 – 2.8 % magnesium and a small manganese or chromium addition, it behaves very much like 5052.
The alloy is strengthened by cold work. In O temper it is very ductile and welds easily; in H14, H24 and H32 it gains strength while still bending well. Its corrosion resistance in fresh water, seawater and marine air is high, and it machines reasonably in the harder tempers. Typical uses include fuel and oil lines, tanks, flanges, ship and vehicle interiors, rivet stock and housings for gas-insulated switchgear.
Buyers usually meet 5A02 on drawings for equipment designed to Chinese GB standards. Where the drawing allows an equivalent, 5052 to ASTM B209 or EN 485 is the nearest internationally stocked grade; the chemistry is close but not identical, so check acceptance with the designer.

GB/T 3880.2 sets minimum properties by temper and thickness. The figures below are indicative ranges for comparison; for acceptance, use the table in the edition named on your order and the values on the mill certificate.

TIG and MIG with 5xxx filler wire (for example ER5356). Weld zones soften towards O-temper strength.
O and H24 bend and draw well; harder tempers need larger radii.
Fair in harder tempers; gummy when annealed. Use sharp tools and lubricant.
Export packing: interleaving paper or film between sheets, moisture-barrier wrap with desiccant, edge protectors, and ISPM 15 wooden pallets or cases secured with straps.
5052 is the closest match. Both have about 2.2 – 2.8 % magnesium; 5A02 allows manganese or chromium as the minor addition, whereas 5052 uses chromium. Confirm with the designer before substituting.
LF2 is the former Chinese designation for 5A02, from the pinyin for "rust-proof aluminium" number 2.
Yes, it has good resistance to seawater and marine atmospheres, similar to 5052.
No. It is non-heat-treatable; strength comes from cold work and is reduced by annealing.
